For fingerstick screenings Summit Health uses the FreeStyle blood glucose monitors by Abbott Laboratories and other FDA-certified instruments to conduct diabetes screenings.
At the screening event, participants receive a counseling brochure with their test results, as well as recommended glucose level guidelines. A Summit Health professional reviews results with each participant.
Hemoglobin A1C
For fingerstick screenings Summit Health uses the A1cNow Plus from Bayer Metrika to conduct the Hemoglobin A1c screening. Processing time is eight minutes and the results are comparable to those obtained through a laboratory using a venipuncture. The A1cNow is FDA cleared; CLIA waived, and provides accurate results for health screenings. An A1C test measures the participant's average blood sugar for the last 2-3 months. Each individual receives a counseling brochure with glucose level guidelines and their corresponding results at the end of the screening.
