The Top-Rated Bone Density Screening On The Market

SummitSummit Health uses the General Electric Achilles Express to conduct bone density testing. The Achilles Express takes an ultrasound of the heel, which has mass similar to that found in the spine and hip, where osteoporosis-related fractures occur most often. The Achilles Express is the top-rated bone density machine on the market and the only heel-ultrasonometry device approved by the FDA for use in the United States.

Each participant’s bare foot is placed in the Achilles Express, which transmits ultrasound energy through the heel and measures the bone mineral density (BMD), or bone mass, at the heel. The machine calculates a T-Score, or stiffness index, which indicates the individual’s risk for osteoporosis. Total screening time is approximately five minutes and a Summit Health professional reviews the results with each participant. Participants receive a counseling brochure at the end of the screening.
